About me

Greetings! My name is Avis and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Supervisor in the state of Texas. I obtained a Doctoral degree from Texas Southern University, a Masters degree from the University of Houston- Victoria and a Bachelors degree from the University of Houston. I have over 12 years of experience working in the mental health field. I have worked in a variety of settings including educational, outpatient, residential and in-home. My areas of interest include but are not limited to working with anxiety, depression, familial conflicts, marriage and couples, life transitions and trauma/abuse.  I am truly passionate about mental health. In order for you to be of value to anyone else, you must take care of yourself. I am eclectic in my approach to treatment, which simply means that I use a variety of theoretical approaches to meet the needs of my clients. Most commonly, I utilize a solution focused approach to treatment. This means I meet you where you are, while focusing on the here and now and setting realistic goals for your future. My counseling style is supportive. Choosing to receive counseling is not always an easy step. Therefore, it is my goal to make you as comfortable as possible while addressing your concerns. During this process, we will partner together to establish goals and implement strategies that will assist in overcoming life’s challenges. There is no better time to take back your life and obtain the peace and serenity that you deserve! I look forward to taking this journey with you. Talk to you soon, Dr. Smith
