About me

Hello! My name is Ben Wilson, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor (LCAC) in the State of Indiana, as well as a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I am a person-centered, strengths-based, solution-focused counselor with over 14 years of clinical experience providing therapy to diverse groups of clients and populations. I earned a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision and an MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I’ve worked in the behavioral health field since 2006 and have served in numerous direct client care and leadership positions over the last two decades. I am also an assistant clinical professor and have been teaching in higher education since 2017. I serve on the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Co-Occurring Care (Adolescent Criteria) Writing Committee, the Hamilton County Council on Alcohol and other Drugs (HCCOAOD), the Indiana Addictions Issues Coalition (IAIC), and I also serve as a subject matter expert for the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor Examination (NCMHCE) and the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). I believe safe spaces are a cornerstone for successful therapy, and I’m dedicated to working collaboratively with each of my clients to support them throughout the therapeutic process. I was drawn to this field from my own lived experiences with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders, and I’ve been in long-term recovery for over 20 years. I describe myself as a life-long learner, educator, clinician, and advocate. I am an avid reader (non-fiction) and enjoy spending time with friends and family. For self-care, I spend much of my time outdoors growing and maintaining a garden of wildflowers, as well as playing the guitar. I currently reside in Hamilton County, Indiana with my wife of 23 years, with whom I have two children (both young adults). I’m looking forward to connecting with you!
