About me

Hello, my name is Douglas and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas. In addition to being an LPC I am certified to supervise (LPC-S) Licensed Professional Counselor Interns. I am also a member of the National Honor Society in Psychology and I have over 24 years experience working with individuals, couples and groups. I believe in the power of the individual ~ in the individual’s creativity, courage, choice, free will, and desire to become better. I believe people make choices about themselves, others and the world, and set goals for their lives based on their perceptions of reality. Sometimes these perceptions are distorted and discouraging. Counseling aids individuals in discovering and recognizing their distorted views, in developing more effective ways to reach their goals, and in decreasing their discouragement. My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don’t believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, solution based and emotional interviewing therapies. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. The therapy process is a cooperative effort between the individual and the counselor where each assumes an active and responsible role in that process. I will contribute my knowledge and expertise to assist you in gaining insight and making educated choices, I will provide you with experiences in which to test those choices, and I will support you with encouragement, patience, and optimism. You will contribute your personal knowledge, your commitment to explore yourself and your beliefs honestly. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile! I look forward to talking with you and assisting you in achieving your goals.
