About me

I am licensed in California since 2007 with over 20 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with a myriad of diagnosis. I use the TEAM CBT approach to therapy. I offer effective and powerful therapy using the TEAM CBT model developed by prominent psychiatrist and educator, David Burns, MD, over the past 40 years. Kim Sullivan, LMFT is certified at Level 3 in the TEAM CBT orientation to therapy, which is the advanced level. It took 4 years of study and practice, culminating in an oral exam to achieve this level of certification. TEAM CBT provides numerous interventions and methods that can target and cure depression, anxiety, personality disorders, habits, and relationship problems. The methods used in this therapeutic orientation have been scientifically tested and empirically measured. They are proven to be effective. Kim Sullivan: “I was first introduced to TEAM CBT in July 2019. I received a flier in the mail promoting ‘High-Speed Treatment of Depression and Anxiety Disorders.’ I’m not exactly sure why I decided to attend this 4-day intensive workshop. Perhaps I was bored with the same boring continuing education trainings that were offered every year. I wanted something stimulating and engaging. Boy! Did I get what I was seeking! I walked out of the 4-day training with a feeling of euphoria. There was so much information, and it was all New Stuff! I remember feeling completely overwhelmed with everything that I learned and wholly moved by the experience. I remember saying to a friend, ‘I have no idea what I just did, but it was wonderful!’ I had the opportunity to chase David Burns across the country to Atlanta 4 months later to do the 4-day intensive training all over again. On the second time through, things were clicking into place. I watched dramatic transformations occur before my eyes. It was magical. Since then, I have continued to hone my skills in this therapeutic process. I have attended numerous trainings over the past years to target specific diagnoses and to address common treatment failures. Additionally, I regularly participate in a consultation group led by a Level 5 trainer to hone my skills and challenge myself to do my own personal work so that I can show up for my clients proficiently.” Kim Sullivan loves animals and currently has two therapy dogs in training. They are both shelter rescues and coming along in their training. Kim has drawn many parallels between dog psychology and people psychology. Additionally, dog training has many commonalities to “people training” and addressing mental health symptoms. Kim Sullivan was active with horses for almost 40 years and owned and operated her own riding school in the 90’s. She has trained and competed in hunters, jumpers, and dressage. Kim Sullivan is active in martial arts, and currently holds a 4th degree black belt in the art of Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial art that is similar to Japanese karate.
